The National MS Society has paired up with Omni Pilates to provide a weekly, free Pilates class to people who suffer with Multiple Sclerosis. Omni Pilates holds this class every Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Reservations and the Introductory Session are needed prior to attending the class. Pilates uses low-impact, typically non-cardio, exercises that can alleviate common MS symptoms such as loss of co-ordination and balance plus it improves posture and mobility. It does this by strengthening the core muscles in the center of the body—the deep abdominals, the pelvic floor, and the muscles around the spine. Additionally, Pilates builds strength, stretches muscles, teaches body awareness—which is helpful for those with body numbness—enhances good posture and joint mobility, and relieves stress. Instructors are trained to tailor sessions to meet the needs of the individual. So, regardless of a person’s changing ability or strength, Pilates can help them. If you know someone who would benefit from this program, please have them contact your instructor or the studio at (806) 731-4540.
